Junior Academy - How it works
The Junior Academy introduces participants to figure skating. Classes offer both on and off-ice training opportunities for skaters of all ages. Fundamental figure skating skills are developed in both group and private lesson formats. Skaters have the option of participating in local competitions in the STAR 1 Program category.
Skaters working at all levels and in all figure skating programs develop their skills through private lessons. Skaters must take private lessons from one of the club coaches. Private lessons are offered to skaters starting in the Junior Academy STAR 1 Program. Our Club coaches are best able to provide advice on whether a skater is ready for private lessons. Lessons may be private or semi-private and will depend on the availability of the coaches and individual skater needs. Lessons are typically fifteen minutes in length.
Skaters contract individually with a coach of their choice and will be billed directly for a skater's lessons. Coaches set their own hourly rates based on experience, qualifications and Skate Canada guidelines. It is advisable to discuss expectations, goals, frequency of lessons and payment options in advance. In addition, skaters are expected to be prompt and to attend lessons regularly, as well as provide advance notice, whenever possible, if a lesson will be missed.
